Situated in the heart of Debrecen, the MODEM Center for Modern and Contemporary Art has been showcasing the diversity of modern and contemporary art since 2006, with international connections and regional relevance. It explores the cultural and social currents of Central Eastern Europe through the medium of art, offering fresh perspectives on the region’s past and present of our region. By embracing collaboration at the intersection of art and science, MODEM creates a space where different perspectives and cultures converge.
More than just an exhibition venue, MODEM is a vibrant and dynamic community space. Its exhibitions of works by national and international artists are complemented by interdisciplinary programmes, conferences, and museum education initiatives. Committed to making contemporary art accessible, MODEM welcomes a broad audience—young people, families, and professionals alike—with open doors and through active engagement in inter-institutional partnerships and off-site projects.
MODEM’s ever-expanding collection reflects key movements in contemporary art, with selections regularly featured in its permanent exhibition. MODEM plays an active role in the Hungarian and international art scene, serving as a bridge between local communities and the global art discourse.
