Momenta Art

Momenta Art was an artist-run, non-profit organization founded in 1986 that operated as a platform for emerging artists and underrepresented artistic perspectives. Initially based in Philadelphia, it moved to New York City in the early 1990s, eventually establishing a permanent location in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in 1995. Momenta was known for fostering collaboration among artists and communities, hosting a variety of exhibitions, and providing artist studios at below-market rates. The gallery was influential in the development of the Brooklyn art scene, with artists such as Wangechi Mutu, Rochelle Feinstein, and Rico Gatson being part of its vibrant network. Momenta Art closed in 2016.
