The 50 international artists of the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam open their studios from May 22–25, 2025.
The Rijksakademie opens its doors again this spring for the annual Open Studios. The event kicks off during Amsterdam Art Week, and runs from 22 to 25 May. Artists in residence will share what has emerged from a period of experimenting, researching and producing new work. For a long weekend, all corridors and spaces in the building will be buzzing with creativity. In addition to the multi-faceted studio presentations, there will be an extensive programme of performances, films, talks and collective projects. Visitors will have the chance to engage with the breadth of practices and ideas that artists have developed, which push boundaries of what contemporary art can be and do.

Tech Fellowship Programme
For the second time, visitors can also explore the innovative projects of the tech fellows. The Tech Fellowship Programme, launched in 2022, offers young and mid-career artists/makers the chance to develop their technical skills and conduct research in craft, materials, and techniques. Selected tech fellows work alongside resident artists, contributing to projects, experimenting with materials, and facilitating knowledge exchange within the workshop environment. Additionally, they pursue their own research focusing on sustainable material use, aligning with the Rijksakademie’s commitment to environmentally conscious practices. The showcase of their research and work highlights the intersection of art, technology, and research within the Rijksakademie community.
Current tech fellows: Nadine Ghandour, Harriet Rose Morley, Viki Nagy, Dmytro Tentiuk, Alex Walker.
Tech fellows 2024: Chad Cordeiro, Bradley Hamlin, Mauricio van der Maesen, Hannah Rose Whittle.
Rijksakademie residency
The Rijksakademie is an international artist-in-residence programme. Over the course of two years, a diverse and multidisciplinary group of artists challenge themselves to deepen their practices and explore new territories, in and beyond the art field. Artists are supported with a studio and a stipend and enter into an open-ended process of artistic research and development. They have access to a variety of exchanges, including peer to peer dialogue, regular visits from a wide range of leading art professionals (advisors), technical workshops and guidance from technical specialists, and the library and historical collection provide a theoretical context that allows history to find its way into contemporary art practice.
Working from a global perspective, the Rijksakademie maintains an extensive network of alumni that stretches across the world. Its reach continues to grow with the current generation of 50 residents, who originate from the Netherlands, Europe and beyond. The programme diversity creates an exceptional ecology for the production and exchange of art, knowledge and imaginative thinking, and contributes to the consistent presence of international creative practitioners in Amsterdam.
Amsterdam Art Week
Rijksakademie Open Studios kicks off during Amsterdam Art Week, which turns the capital into an international hub for art lovers, collectors, art professionals and promising and renowned artists. For five days, you get to know the latest developments in contemporary art at the more than 70 participating galleries, project spaces, museums and residencies. They will present a varied programme of exhibitions, performances, screenings, lectures and artists talks. The 13th edition of Amsterdam Art Week will take place from May 20–25.
