Master in Critical Creative Practices
Combining creativity with new media and sustainability, this interdisciplinary master programme equips students to drive transformative change at the intersection of culture, technology and climate justice. By integrating art, design and technology, the programme addresses today’s most pressing challenges.
Within three complementary and thematic areas—nature and ecocriticism, spatial and innovation practices, technology in artistic forms—students explore aspects of art and design making, combining traditional media with cutting-edge technologies. The teaching approach combines hands-on creative practice with a strong theoretical foundation, encouraging critical discussion and inspiring innovative solutions.
Course description
This programme takes a hands-on approach to contemporary challenges, bringing together art, design and technology to create powerful messages about global issues, from the climate crisis and energy transition to geopolitics and social inclusion.
It is tailored to designers and artists, enabling them to create interdisciplinary, tangible projects that combine strong artistic and design practices with advanced technological and theoretical applications.
The master is structured to prepare highly skilled professionals who can thrive in innovative, interdisciplinary environments and address the most pressing issues of our time, including nature, space, socio-cultural dynamics, and technological development. Students will acquire advanced skills in design and art, with a focus on their intersection with cutting-edge technology and a deep understanding of cultural dimensions.
In addition, the programme incorporates advanced research methodologies and experimental practices in design and art, encouraging students to explore the relationships between creative practices, technology and culture. This critical and creative approach aims to influence contemporary cultural production, languages, practices and discourses, enabling students to develop innovative projects. Students will be equipped to conceptualise and execute significant works that address both current and future needs, using a diverse range of traditional, current and emerging media, while exploring the potential for innovation within the sector.
The programme also focuses on developing students’ advanced research skills, preparing them to contribute to interdisciplinary projects and generate original knowledge. Graduates will be equipped with specialist expertise and an interdisciplinary perspective, ready to take on prominent roles in cultural contexts both nationally and internationally.
Ideal applicants are: Graduates in design, art and architecture who are interested in understanding how contemporary critical practices can influence society and space.
